Rome Adventures

October 23, 24, 25, & 26, 2014
So, after I sent off Justin and Mike at the airport, I packed my own bag and headed out to Rome to meet up with Nikki, Melanie and Mia. My flight arrived on time, but it took me a couple hours to make my way to the apartment. The bus took about an hour to show up and then another hour to get to the metro station. When I finally got to the apartment, I had to call them to see if I was at the right place because the outer walls were full of graffiti and didn't look like a nice place. But, to my surprise, I saw Melanie peek out the door and tell me I was at the right place. So, I skeptically make my way into the apartment and become completely surprised. The inside of the apartment looked like it came out of an IKEA catalog. Everything was decorated perfectly and the refrigerator was even part of the cabinets. Seeing the inside made me feel much better after seeing the outside. Once I put all my stuff down, they already had pasta ready and were having dinner. I think one of the best things about being there is actually having dinner at a table with other people and having a home-cooked meal (even if it was just pasta every night).
The next morning, we went out to go see the Sistine Chapel. Although we had to walk around a lot through a museum which was packed, we finally made it to the chapel. Unfortunately there aren't any pictures of it because, due to religious reasons, they didn't allow any pictures to be taken. So, even though there were other people sneaking pictures, I figured I could make my way through one room without taking a picture. After we made it through the crowds and out of there, we found a place for lunch and then just walked around for the rest of the day until we decided to head back for dinner.
Saturday we slept in a little later than the day before and headed out to see the Colosseum. When we got there, we found out the line was incredibly huge. We probably should've bought tickets online like we did for the Sistine Chapel, but we forgot to. So, Melanie decided to stand in the hour-long line to inside the Colosseum while Mia, Nikki and I went up higher to get a better angle to take more pictures. We then walked up the street a little while and found some interesting structures and then found a place to sit and get some food and for Melanie to meet us there. We finished just in time to head out to get our fish pedicures. It was an interesting experience but definitely worth it. It tickled and felt really weird for the first minute, but we got used to it after that and when it was over it didn't seem like enough. After all this walking we've done over the past couple months, we realized our feet needed a treatment. So, after that, we were back at it, walking around Rome a little bit more before heading back to the apartment where we had our last meal of the trip and headed out the next morning at an early 3:30 a.m.
